Adders Unlucky Loss

Brocton U18’s - 2

Atherstone town U18’s - 1

The young Adders were looking to bounce back from last week’s lacklustre performance and you could certainly see this.

They came out the traps with intensity and desire to press the home side, and their hard work culminated in them taking the lead through Jack Collins after 25 minutes.

However it was the next 15 minutes that proved crucial to the game….The old cliche missed chances come back to haunt you was certainly prevalent in this case.

Charlie Williams cleverly caught the keeper sleeping only to bounce back off the post then a pull-back to Jack Collins 7 yards out who tamely hit it straight at the keeper.

Finally Collins clean through who perhaps should have rounded the keeper to pass in to an empty net but to no avail.

Credit to Brocton a very lively athletic team, who were busy all night, capitalised on two poor defensive errors the last right on the stroke of half time to give them a 2-1 lead at the break.

Brocton edged the second-half, however the Adddrs had three guilt edge chances in the last 5 minutes. Two fell to Hallam but the opposing keeper made two outstanding saves, and a Dhingra header was cleared off the line.

When the chips are down they don’t go in.

Manager Wayne Hadley had this to say…….

“ From last week, tonight was definitely a step in the right direction.

First-half I loved our reaction from last week we really pressed and caused Brocton some problems.

Down their right Charlie Williams playing in an unfamiliar role was outstanding, and Aaron Dhingra in behind him at right back was equally as good.

Half-time we made some tactical changes, introducing some pace up top thinking we could get down the sides of there defenders.

However this didn’t work as we lost our intensity to press out of possession.

I will take responsibility for this…..

I felt a draw probably would have been a fair result on chances.

Brocton were a decent outfit, lively and played the right way, just disappointing we gifted them two goals rather than make them earn it.

These sort of games are the reason we wanted to be promoted.

A really enjoyable game and we will get far more out of losing 2-1 in a tight affair than last season going to Hinckley for example and winning 8-3.

The work starts now back to training to try to cut out the errors and take chances, but more importantly try to find the kind of football that is pleasing on the eye as we have lost our way slightly.

I am sure we can turn the corner we have the characters to do so”

Up next Sutton Coldfield at home 7.30 kick-off Thursday 19th September.
