Adders U18 continue fine form

fter what felt like an eternity without a fixture, the team returned to action with a determined and energetic performance. Right from the first whistle, the boys set the tempo, demonstrating fantastic passages of play in the final third and forcing the opposition goalkeeper into several early saves. The intensity and intent were clear, and it seemed only a matter of time before the deadlock would be broken.

That breakthrough came midway through the first half. A beautifully delivered cross from the left found Jack Collins, who expertly timed his run to the near post and slotted the ball home with a clinical finish. It was a goal of real quality, showcasing the attacking cohesion and creativity that had been on display throughout the opening exchanges.

The boys remained in control, dictating possession and maintaining pressure on the opposition. However, football has a way of punishing even the smallest lapses, and a brief moment of hesitation in midfield allowed their number 9 to collect the ball in space. From 20 yards out, he unleashed an unstoppable strike that leveled the score and reminded everyone of the fine margins in the game.

Rather than falter, the team responded brilliantly. A few minor tactical adjustments in midfield tightened the lines, neutralising the opposition’s ability to play through their key attacking players. With greater discipline and focus, the boys upped the tempo once more, taking the game firmly by the scruff of the neck.

Jake Thornton restored the lead with a well-taken penalty. We came firing out the traps in the second half, Charlie Williams extended the advantage, his relentless work rate and sharpness paying off in style. The fourth goal was a moment of brilliance from Noah Fitzgerald, who displayed composure and precision to put the team in a commanding 4-1 position.

Despite a late resurgence from the opposition, who pulled one back to make it 4-2, the boys never looked in danger of relinquishing their grip on the game. The final word went to Ronnie Wassel, who reacted quickest to a parried save from the opposition goalkeeper to tap home the team’s fifth goal. It was a fitting end to a performance full of energy, character, and quality.

Special mentions must go to Harry Roper, Louis John and Charlie Williams, of whom were outstanding from the first whistle to the last. Their efforts epitomised the team’s commitment and desire throughout the match.

Finally, a big thank you from the coaching team on the night to former joint first team manager Ross Innes, who stepped in to support us in Wayne’s absence. His presence on the sideline was invaluable in guiding the boys to such an impressive result.

Full-Time Score: 5-2

A fantastic performance and a well-deserved victory. The boys can take great pride in their efforts as they look to build on this momentum in the coming fixtures.
